Modeling rare earth elements binding to humic acids with model VII

چکیده
Rare earth elements (REE) naturally occur at trace levels in natural systems but, due to their increasing use modern technologies, they are now released into the environment, and considered as emerging contaminants. Therefore, development of numerical predictive models speciation various physico-chemical conditions is required predict behavior, transport potentially toxic effects on ecosystems. Because REE largely affected by organic matter, such humic acids (HA), this study aimed calibrating an advanced humic-ion binding model (Model VII) allow predicting REE-HA pH conditions, ionic strength [REE]/[HA], well presence competitor ions. First, complexation monodentate O-containing ligands was evaluated using Irving-Rossotti equation, which provided constraints for optimization parameters Model VII. Predictive capacities VII were demonstrated successfully modeling cations (Al3+, Fe3+, Cu2+ Ca2+) carbonates binding. The large range applicable suggest that present might be used more accurately role played NOM very contrasting environments, groundwaters, rivers, estuaries, seawater, soils or sediments. provides a valuable tool fate environment.

متن کاملRare Earth Elements Profile
Definitions and characteristics The rare earth elements (REE) (sometimes referred to as the rare earth metals) are a group of 17 chemically similar metallic elements, including the 15 lanthanides, scandium and yttrium. The lanthanides are elements spanning atomic numbers 57 (lanthanum, La) to 71 (lutetium, Lu) (Table 1). The lanthanides all occur in nature, although promethium, the rarest, only...
متن کاملRare earth elements and permanent magnets (invited)
Rare earth (RE) magnets have become virtually indispensible in a wide variety of industries such as aerospace, automotive, electronics, medical, and military. RE elements are essential ingredients in these high performance magnets based on intermetallic compounds RECo5, RE2TM17 (TM: transition metal), and RE2TM14B. Rare earth magnets are known for their superior magnetic properties—high inducti...
متن کاملEffect of Rare Earth Elements on Proliferation and Fatty Acids Accumulation of 3T3-L1 Cells
The present study including two experiments was designed to determine the effect of media containing different rare earth elements (REE) on proliferation and fatty acids accumulation in 3T3-L1 cell cultures. In Experiment 1, 3T3-L1 preadipocytes in 96-well plates (1.5×10 cells/ml) were cultured with Dulbecco’s modified Eagle’s medium (DMEM) containing 10% fetal bovine serum (FBS) for 24 h. Then...
متن کاملCharacterization of metal binding sites onto biochar using rare earth elements as a fingerprint
The ability of biochar to immobilize metals relies on the amount of functional groups at its surface but the contribution of each functional groups (e.g. carboxylic, phenolic) to metal bonding is poorly known. Using a new approach based on previous works on rare earth element (REE) interactions with humic substances, we aim at elucidating the relative contribution of these binding sites to meta...
